Hi I am a very new (2 days !) plone user and I have tried to install plone 3.1.5 on my windows XP system to gain some experience. The installation seemed to be ok and as my isp is AOL I set up my mail settings as follows;
SMTP server smtp.uk.aol.com SMTP port 587 ESMTP username my screen name ESMTP password my aol password Site 'From' name Plone Site 'From' address my aol email address (This works fine with outlook express) To test the mail I ran plone without logging in and selected the "contact" link on the home page and built a simple test mail and sent it. I received the following error message and no mail was sent; Unable to send mail: (501, 'INVALID SASL FORMAT OR LENGTH') I did a quick google on this error and it is possible that it is the subject of a python patch. I have 3 questions ; 1). Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be ? 2). Has anybody got plone working with aol as the smtp server. 3). Can I add users without a functioning mail server? I would be most grateful for any feedback.
