Hi Langis, I feel sorry for your bad installation experience. There are a lot of add-ons available for Plone which are not actively maintained anymore. Dealing with such might indeed require insight. Also, it is possible that the particular add-on is later made obsolete by new, more well behaving products. Also, add-ons are often contributed by individuals. The quality of documentation they write depends on their willing to go in depths to share the details. When individuals are motivated by the scratching their own itch motives, they don't necessarily see it worthwhile to write meaningful documentation. This problem is not really specific to Plone community [1] The author of Structured Document package mentions "I never used the following things : Paster, ZopeSkel, Egg, Buildout, easy_install" which are the best practives to install add-ons for Plone. Not a very good sign... I suggest you forgot Structured Document and try to solve the problem some other way. For example, PloneHelpCenter add-on provides chaptered content and is in active use on plone.org.
