Thank you for your prompt reply!

It turned out that the port 8080 was abused by another process on the
server, which was using the SSH protocol.

I have Plone running happily on port 8000 now.

Is that the full error message or is there more?

Does this also happen when you try to access

    http://localhost:8080/manage

What happens when you try to start in debug mode?
(something like bin/instance fg)
