Big diary ========= 4th April - Surrey Foil (Team + Individual) - all hands on deck. We will try and form as many teams as possible. 25th April - Wimbledon Invitation - we will be entering two teams (8 fencers per team) plus a joint "development" team with Wimbledon. Other events ============ Morley might be visiting on Thursday - there are less of them than Wimbledon. The One Hit Epee will be the week after. I've spoken to Kingston and Guildford to arrange some more matches. Guildford are happy to visit us, but I am wondering if we have enough transport to visit them as well. Please let me know Science Museum ============== This is the text of the reply of John Ramsey (the BFA director organising this): "The Science Museum is planning a series of exhibits on Science in Sport and they have invited British Fencing to take part between the 3rd and the 18th of April. We have been allocated a space in the main hall, in a good position, approximately 22m by 9m and have agreed to try and provide a display between the hours of 11.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. each day. There are no expenses available, though the Museum is hoping to provide some light refreshments during the day. I have explained that it is almost impossible at this short notice to fill every day and they have asked that we try and cover the weekends and as many weekdays as possible. They do not expect a continuous display all day, but something lasting at least 20 minutes every hour. I am fully aware that the time includes the Birmingham Competition and the Winton Cup but we do our best. Leon Paul Ltd. are equipping an electric piste in the area that will be available for all events." Please let me know if you can help in any way (by fencing) - especially on the any of the week days. Social events ============= Maggie's address is sal_ly36 at yahoo.co.uk (rearrange in the obvious fashion) - cost of the Rat Pack tickets is 10. Please could you let either of us know if you aware interested. Surrey Novices and Intermediates ================================ Congratulations to Pod for L8 in the novice epee - he lost 15-12 to a junior with much more experience - and to everyone else who went. Martin Smith, who has been training with us lately, came second in the Intermediate Foil. Just to prove that the standard was suitable for the less committed fencer (and that I am unfit) I managed to lose three 5-4's in the foil, and a 5-4 and 2-1 to the finalists of the Intermediate Epee, before my leg' and brain stopped working when faced with someone I should have beat. Very enjoyable event, hope a lot more of us can go next year.
