http://java.foundries.sourceforge.net/article.pl?sid=02/10/05/0841240

OpenEJB -- EJB Container System and EJB Server Release news, October
    4th, 2002: OpenEJB 0.8.3 - http://openejb.sf.net/download.html The
OpenEJB project has received such tremendous community support since
our 0.8 Final release, it's time to say thank you to our community and
give credit where credit is due. The amount of suggestions, feedback
and contributions that have come in is overwhelming, it has been hard
at work keeping pace. OpenEJB team has been working full-steam
implementing your suggestion and improving the usability and
performance of OpenEJB. The result is something we are all very proud
of and represents a real community effort. We would like very much to
thank all the users for their fantastic feedback and support, most
notably: Jacek Laskowski Tim Urberg Clint Olson John Mettraux Peter
Molettiere James Downer Jason Rosenberg Andrew Sleeman Terry McGregor
Marc Prud'hommeaux Anthony W. Marino Frank Marshall Gopal M. Bradley
Smith Michael Mihaljevic We would also like to thank Stefan Reich and
the whole WebObjects team at Apple Computer. Apple has donated a very
significant amount of resources to the project in both development and
QA testing. They certainly have helped us raise the bar on the
scalability and overall EJB compliance of the project.

Security updates: Tomcat 4.1.12 Stable and Tomcat 4.0.5 Released (Thursday September
26, @06:10PM)
http://java.foundries.sourceforge.net/article.pl?sid=02/09/26/2315202

From Jakarta: A security vulnerability has been confirmed to exist in
all Apache Tomcat 4.x versions (including Tomcat 4.0.4 and Tomcat
4.1.10), which allows to use a specially crafted URL to return the
unprocessed source of a JSP page, or under special circumstances a
static resource which would otherwise have been protected by security
constraint, without the need of being properly authenticated. Using the
invoker servlet in conjunction with the default servlet (responsible
for handling static content in Tomcat) triggers this vulnerability.
This particular configuration is available in the default Tomcat
configuration. An easy workaround exists for existing Tomcat
installation, by disabling the invoker servlet in the default webapp
configuration. In the $CATALINA_HOME/conf/web.xml file (on Windows,
%CATALINA_HOME%\conf\web.xml), comment out or remove the following XML
    fragment: <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping> The Apache Tomcat Team announces the immediate
availability of new releases which include a fix to the invoker
servlet. Binary and source distributions for Apache Tomcat 4.1.12
Stable are available here. Binary and source distributions for Apache
    Tomcat 4.0.5 are available here.

Java source code analyser can run hourly on any SF project (Wednesday September 25,

PMD is a Java source code analyzer. It finds unused variables, empty
catch blocks, unnecessary object creation, and so forth. It can be

Developing Multilingual Web Applications (Wednesday September 25, @08:52AM)
http://java.foundries.sourceforge.net/article.pl?sid=02/09/25/145236

From Sun Microsystems: "JavaServer Pages(TM) technology is now a
favorite tool for developers of web applications. With JSP pages,
developers can design dynamic web pages without the need for other
programming knowledge. At the same time, web developers can use an
extensible tag mechanism to harness the power of underlying software
components." "Now, a new extension developed through the Java
Community Process(SM) provides enhanced support for the development of
multilingual applications. The JavaServer Pages Standard Tag Library
defines, among other functionality, a set of tags that enable
localization and locale-sensitive formatting." Read complete
article. Internationalization concept is not a new one and now
localization process can be much more simplified with special tools.
