I am using the KDE client to communicate through an Elastix pbx on our LAN,
using the IAX protocol. My system is an Intel i5 with 4 cores running at 2.5
GHz, with 16 GB RAM. Our internet service is from Charter cable, with a solid
30 M downstream and 4 M upstream.

Sometimes I get very clear calls, but usually not. Today my calls out were
mostly unusable, but when the other party called me back, it was clear.
However, by contrast, calls made from "hardphones" on the same LAN through the
same pbx are almost always crystal clear. I am wondering whether choice of
codecs in the softphone is the main issue. I'd be glad for any tips for
getting better call quality.
