There is the SGD forum on Sun's website which gets a little bit of traffic. > I imagine there'd be more people using both the product (although I have > no means myself to determine that particular quantity) and this mailing > list if Sun would make SGD available under the same terms as Solaris and > the Java Enterprise System instead of the limited trial period. Jonathan said ALL Sun software is free for the asking. Has anyone asked? We had a discussion about this issue about 6 months ago here. Christopher Saul from Sun was supposed to report back to the list on why SGD went from not free, to free, and back to not free again. I don't think he's been seen on here since, so he might not even be a Sun employee anymore. There's a few other issues as well: 1) The SGD group within Sun doesn't seem as community friendly as say, the Sun Ray team, who's participation in the Sun Ray list seems to exceed even the general populace. 2) The SGD documentation sucks. SGD is very powerful and very complex piece of software, but the documentation is horrid. 3) Sun has never been good at marketing, and it's real bad with SGD. No one at Sun that I've spoken to knows what it is or what it does. Everyone knows about Solaris (of course!), Sun Ray, storage offerings, etc, but mention SGD and you get dumb looks. _______________________________________________ SGD-Users mailing list [email protected] http://node1.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sgd-users
