It looks like Java does not take over the proxy-setting from the browser. Java can take over these setting from Internet Explorer, but can not from Mozilla/Firefox/Opera.

JRE 1.4.x: see http://www.java.com/en/download/help/proxy_setup.xml

JRE 1.6 Working under windows XP and alike:
Taking over the IE proxy settings:
Open Control Panel, open Java icon, tab General, button Network settings: 'Use browser settings'

For other browsers:
Open Control Panel, open Java icon, tab General, button Network settings: 'Use proxy server' and specify proxy server.

I prefer to use the 'User browser settings' and set the proxy via Internet Explorer since this proxy can easely be set via an Active Directory Group Policy. Even when the user uses Mozilla.

and my users expirience problems when they are sitting in a network that
does only allow outside connections via Web-Proxy.

I configured SGD that it only uses port 443 and that works fine. But
during the login-process one applet (webtop) ignores the proxy-settings
of the browser as it seems and tries to connect directly to the sgd
server.

This happens when using Mozilla WebBrowser with JAVA Plugin Version
1.5.0, 1.4.2_05-1.4.2_13 and with MS IE (unknown Java Version).

Has anyone an idea whats wrong here? I even tried to specify a dedicated
Web-Proxy for the JRE, but that does not help either.

Thanks for your help,
