Hi Rick and Christian,
Thanks guys for your responses. I know it is the external DNS names
that go in the jsp (Christian - are you putting the peer dns names
in?). I just wondered if the user 'reconnected' to the wrong server,
because they share an external dns, whether the sgd servers talk and
take care of passing that user to the correct machine. I guess the
answer to that is no because otherwise I'd expect this set up to work.
Rick, thanks for the tip on my terminology - isn't that always the
problem with IT!!
Cheers,
Andy

I'm not exactly sure of what you're trying to do -- but if I
understand it correctly, I don't think this will work. The client
(tcc) needs to be able to connect to the external DNS name of a
specific server, and needs to be able to resolve and connect to any of
the members independently. See:
http://docs.sun.com/source/820-4907/chapter7.html#Z40000231317526
Oh, and just fyi, you use the term "load balancing group" -- that's an
altogether different thing, usually meant to accommodate SGD arrays
where an SGD array spans multiple sites (usually, geographically
separated) and provides a way to tunnel AIP over array links, to
putting heavy-weight protocols over WAN links. See:
http://docs.sun.com/source/820-4907/chapter7.html#Z40000231337997
Anyway, just wanted to point that out to avoid any confusion.
Hope this helps.

Hi All,
Please be gentle if this is a stupid question of epic proportions!
For a single SGD server you could configure the external dns to be
www.mysgdserver.com and dispense with the need to do anything clever
with dns. If you had two SGD servers in an array could you do this
for both of them? If you then added in the load balancing jsp you
need to put the external dns names of the servers in the load
balancing group into the jsp page of the primary server, however they
would both have the same external dns name and presumably you would
only need to add the name once. Would this configuration even work?
This is only a theoretical situation (thankfully), we are just trying
to understand what is possible with the load balancing and what is not.
Thanks.
Andy
