India's Reaction to their 9-11 Attack: Political Accountability
December 05, 2008
The Indians are on the warpath.

The world's largest democracy is pissed that a group of Pakistani terrorists
were able to breach their border and cold-bloodedly carry out a military
operation on their soil with such apparent ease. Their anger increases daily
with every revelation of a security or intelligence failure within their
government.

Some are comparing the attacks on Mumbai's Taj Mahall Hotel and Resort and the
old Victorian Rail Station to the U.S.'s 9-11 World Trade disaster. All the
evidence points to Pakistan, but there's no groundswell (so far) to start a war
with their next-door neighbor.

Instead, the Indian populace is directing its anger against their politicians.
The official in charge of homeland security has already resigned, and further
shakeups are expected as further details emerge about the planning, funding and
execution of the attack.

In the US, our politicians directed our anger against Saddam Hussien and Iraq.

Heads did not roll when an FBI whistleblower sent Congress memos about Middle
Eastern men taking 747 flying lessons but leaving before the classes on
landing. That FBI supervisor was promoted and the whistleblower was fired.
Heads did not roll when it was discovered that Condi Rice was briefed by the
intelligence community titled "Al-Queda plans to fly planes into the World
Trade Center."

When it was discovered that Saddam didn't possess WMD, the FBI director who
assured the president that the evidence supporting this claim was a "slam
dunk," he received a Medal of Freedom.

Most importantly, the ruling party in this country used the attack to justify a
torture, electronic eavesdropping, renditions, signing statements, the unitary
executive and the insane airport searches of little old ladies in wheelchairs.
