I think the suppressed price of gold is a reflection of the need to sell
assets to pay leveraged debt. Once that selling is over, I suspect gold will
soar. First, I think we have another big leg down in the markets that will
take gold lower. I believe we have already entered that leg down.

Treasuries have been used as a "safe haven" and, combined with the Fed's
interest rates cuts, has pushed interest rates artificially low.

I think oil prices have come back down to more reasonable levels due to the
fact that the oil crisis was largely an Enron/California-energy-crisis type
of fraud.

Nations that are rich with gold have no more desire to spend to stave off
social unrest than does the U.S. The U.S. is spending vast sums in an
attempt to shore up capitalism and protect the super-rich while offering
unemployment, homelessness and bankruptcy court to the general public.
Social unrest is always met by military, police-state repression, not the
selling of gold to help the people. Capitalism is class warfare. Perhaps not
all members of the underclass comprehend that reality; but the wealthy-elite
certainly do.

They may attempt to replace the currency; but it won't be an easy thing to
do. If the dollar is replaced at 80% value, it will only serve to further
destroy the economy as more debt will go unpaid. This means a further
increase in mortgage defaults, further erosion of the banks' balance sheets
and a destruction of retail sales.

While the wealthy, ruling class is preparing the military for public revolt,
they also realize that their is certainly a chance that they could be
overthrown in such a revolt, many of today's leaders would be imprisoned and
many others would likely be executed. The solution for the ruling class to
their desire to roll back the wages and lifestyles of the middle class has
always been the slow destruction of the middle class. Introducing a new
dollar at a significant reduction in value to a society that is still
clinging to middle class status would lead to mass revolt and there is no
guarantee that the military would be able to contain it.
