President Obama, the Poker Player by Nick Egnatz May 12, 2009 President Obama was elected on a platform of change, although like any good poker player he didn't show us the American people his hole cards. Of course it is important to remember that a poker player is trying to deceive his audience at the table and we certainly wouldn't have given Obama his mandate with the knowledge that he was trying to deceive us, would we? Does anyone remember that oft repeated statement that the election wasn't about him, it was about us? Obama and his fellow corporate Democrats are deeply engrossed in reforming our health care system, yet they refuse to allow advocates for the so called government single payer system in to the Senate Finance Committee hearings. No seat at the table of 15 insurance and pharmaceutical spokespeople advising the Senate on health care reform. This in spite of the fact that even the doctors and nurses are now speaking out, realizing at last that government single payer is the democratic, egalitarian and affordable solution to the crisis of a system which becomes progressively both more unaffordable and unavailable. Remember Ed is no progressive liberal, he even takes a swipe at Code Pink saying that they were doctors arrested and not Code Pink types. He also says he is not one for protests. Just a couple of different issues to ponder as our new Obama Administration continues the war in Iraq, increases the one in Afghanistan, takes it to Pakistan and continues to shirk it's Constitutional duty to investigate and prosecute Bush and Cheney for admitted torture and wars of aggression. Oh, I forgot they can't do this and pass health care reform, although their version of health care reform will be a big payday for corporate America at the expense of the American people. The last hole card revealed shows generals and our esteemed Democratic and Republican leaders being wined and dined by the corporate leaders of our military industrial complex. The really sad thing is that with Obama's mandate and the very real desire for change from the American people, he could have accomplished something that his children would one day be proud of.
