Allis and Ronald Radosh talked about their book A Safe Haven: Harry S.
Truman and the Founding of Israel (Harper; May 12, 2009). On May 14, 1948,
the United States became the first nation to recognize the State of Israel
just moments after sovereignty had been declared in Jerusalem. Based on
never-before-used archival material, Allis Radosh and Ronald Radosh recount
the events that lead to this controversial announcement by President Harry
Truman.

Allis Radosh has served as a program officer at the National Endowment for
the Humanities and has taught at Sarah Lawrence College and the City
University of New York. She is the co-author with Ronald Radosh of Red Star
Over Hollywood.

Ronald Radosh is the author of numerous books, including Commies: A Journey
Through the Old Left, the New Left, and the Leftover Left. He is an adjunct
senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and professor emeritus of history at
the City University of New York.
