Winslow Wheeler talked about the current year's Defense Authorization Bill, 
which the Senate is scheduled to take up in the upcoming week, including 
efforts to cut specific weapons programs such as the F-22 aircraft. Mr. 
Winslow also discussed efforts by some legislators to pass a bill compelling 
the Pentagon to organize and open its books for an audit, and he responded 
to telephone calls and electronic correspondence.

Winslow Wheeler, editor of America's Defense Meltdown, and two contributors 
to the book argue that the Defense Department is in need of reform and offer 
suggestions on how to do it. Mr. Wheeler is joined by Pierre Sprey, 
co-designer of the F-16 and A-10 jets, and Thomas Christie, former adviser 
to the Secretary of Defense on weapons systems testing. This event was held 
at the Mott House in Washington, DC.

Winslow Wheeler is the director of the Straus Military Project at the Center 
for Defense Information. He is the author of The Wastrels of Defense and 
Military Reform.
