questionable public-health policy practices. He responded to telephone calls 
and electronic communications.

Mr. Alcabes, who participated via remote access from New York City, is the 
author of Dread: How Fear and Fantasy have Fueled Epidemics from the Black 
Death to the Avian Flu (PublicAffairs; April 13, 2009).

This program was part of a "Washington Journal" series of interviews with 
authors of recently released books.
