Subject: AUSTRALIA: Record breaking high temperatures

AUSTRALIA - The Bureau of Meteorology says it is UNUSUAL for parts of the North
West to have already reached RECORD-BREAKING HIGH TEMPERATURES so early in the
year. The coastal town of Exmouth, in Western Australia, reached a scorching
48.9 degrees on Saturday and the bureau is predicting more warm weather is on
the way. Other parts of the North West have also reached record-breaking
temperatures.

"Onslow recorded a maximum temperature of 49.1 [degrees Celsius] and the most
significant thing about that is it was actually the HOTTEST START TO ANY NEW
YEAR ON RECORD."

The bureau has also released its annual report showing Australia experienced
its HOTTEST DECADE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN in 1910.
