I'm hoping that somebody has already been through this and can offer some
help.
I've been using STN for quite some time with a cable modem connection. I
recently installed STN on a system to use as the firewall for our company
Internet connection. We are now moving to a new site with dual DSL lines,
which will require a different solution. I plan to use the STN router as a
backup, especially if the DSL lines are not operating by move day. This has
to be working by Feb. 18.
What I'm trying to do now is set up a router with a single NIC card and
modem (US Robotics Courier 56K v.Everything on COM1:). The problem I am
having is that the modem will dial out, light the CD LED, and about 30
seconds later, hang up. Nothing I have tried will allow the connection to
complete. I am using Earthlink as the ISP. Of course, Earthlink support is
useless.
I suspect that I need to include some PPP options in the STN setup. When I
attempt to connect, I get the following on the [ALT]+[F3] screen:
Starting Link
report (CONNECT)
abort on (BUSY)
abort on (ERROR)
abort on (NO CARRIER)
send (AT&F^M)
expect (OK)
-- got it
send (atdtxxxxxxx^M)
expect (CONNECT)
^M
atdtxxxxxxx^M^M
-- got it
Serial Connection Established (OK so far)
Connect ppp0 <--> /dev/cua0
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated
Connect time 0.6 minutes
Hangup (SIGHUP)
Can anyone who has managed to get dialup working with Earthlink (or
Mindspring, I can switch in a heartbeat), help me out here?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Bob Jackson
