You might check out the RocketPort serial cards at http://www.comtrol.com
I have used these for remote access servers and "permanent" dial-up
connections and they work very well.

I pasted this from their web site:

Number of Cards/System: Up to 4

Number of Ports/Card:  4 to 32

Interrupts/ISA or PCI:  One or none

Baud Rate:  Up to 921 Kbps, depending on model

Interfaces Bus Interface:   ISA or PCI

Communications Interface: RS-232, RS-422, RS-485
