Nelson,

My understanding is that Share The Net does not support dynamic port
allocation, which is required for NetMeeting. In order to allow incoming
NetMeeting data, you would have to open ALL ports above 1024; if you did
that, why bother to have a firewall? *S*. So the bottom line is that I, and
I think most of us here, have given up on using NetMeeting and instead use
something else. In my case, it is CU-SeeMe, which has well-publicized ports
on both sides of the connection. A nice bonus is that it also runs on
Macintosh and, I assume, Linux; NetMeeting is, of course, MickeySoft only.
The disadvantage is that it isn't free.

I'm sure this is not what you wanted to hear, but it seems to be the
consensus. I am far from a guru on this stuff (if I were, I'd have written
my own firewall ;) ), but I believe I am correct in this. If not, I welcome
anyone else to speak up. This question has come up many times on this board,
and I have yet to see a reasonable solution.

For those who must use NetMeeting because of work requirements or something,
I THINK (but have not tried it) that CU-SeeMe and NetMeeting can talk to
each other. If anyone on this list knows whether or not this is true, please
speak up.

BTW, welcome to the Share The Net board!

Cheers,
Carl
