I have noticed something interesting - and I have been following this for a while to make sure it was statistically valid: If I connect my computer directly to my cable modem, and then run the speed tests at www.dslreports.com/stest, I get one set of readings. If I connect through the STN box, (this computer is the only one on the net, etc.) and re-run the same tests - I get about a 1/3 drop in line rate. (i.e. high 300's with the direct connection, this drops to mid 200's via STN.) Is there some setting in STN that I can "tweek" to help prevent this loss of line speed? System Info: The cable modem is a Motorola SurfBoard, 100/10 The computer has a 100/10 3Com 390x card The STN box is a 486DX with two 10Mb NIC's in it, 32 megs ram, 40 mhz buss with a p24 overdrive chip running at 150 MHz. I do not think that the 10 vs 100 Mb should be such a big issue with line rates less than 1Mb. I suspect that there is some "tweak" somewhere that will speed this right up.
