"STN is aging feature wise, however it does 1 job and it does it
well.(and on old hw too)"

Sure does! Last winter (when I endeavor to learn more about networking)
I was running a DOS program called IPROUTE which worked well enough, was
based on script configuration files and had no DHCP of any kind, nor DNS
or even a way to adminster the router. Now THAT was secure! Hard to
configure though.

Does a home user need a new version? Not really from what I can see,
but the things like Netmeeting and the like that are difficul to get
working behind a router are always of interest, even to a home user.
For me, it is more a learning tool than anything else "What can I learn
this winter?"

The box I built for running routing functionality is slicker than snot
on a doorknob. It consists of a single board 386SX-20 card running 16MB
of old 30 pin SIMMS, a four slot passive backplane, floppy and power
supply stuffed into a little sheet metal box I fabricated. Besides being
somewhat bigger than a Linksys or such (but it is a "real" computer), it
is a cool little box that runs quietly and can sit in a corner with
nothing but two LAN cables and a power cord running to it. Thanks again
for addressing my query.
