This may not apply to Compaq Deskpro but with most clone motherboards,
the IRQ for the PCI card is inherited by the IRQ assigned to the PCI
slot. Is there a way to get into the BIOS (Compaq F10) and assign a
unique IRQ to the slot rather than accepting the default of AUTO (which
may be the assignment, as it is in most clones).
Also, when you configure STN, have you tried AUTO on the IRQ. This is a
must with the ISA 3Com 3C509B NIC. If you set STN with the IRQ that the
3C509B is set to (via the 3c5x9cfg.exe), STN doesn't recognize the
card. It must be set to AUTO. Maybe this is the case with your setup?
Good Luck,
Arnie
