Hi I'm new on this list

I'm currently in the status of checking out the 30-minutes-version of STN to
determine if it serves my need......

I have an AMD-233 system with 2 RTL8139 based NICs (
http://www.sitecom.com/showproduct.asp?PID=250 )
When I generate some 'medium-density' internet traffic (like downloading a
couple of files at the same time using a split-file download manager or
opening a couple of web pages at the same time, meaning 75-200 kilobte/sec
with 15-30 connections open @ the same time) I get errors like

Transmit timeout, status 0d 0000

After a couple (usually more than 3, typically 5-8) of these messages, the
network card seems to 'hang' and I need to reboot the STN server. These
errors typically appear at 'medium-density' network load, but sometimes at
random when traffic is low or no traffic at all..........

I found a link at
http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/428/1999/10/0/2787735/ indicating a
similar problem........

Does someone now a solution to this problem? I don't know a thing about
Linux, but I can imagine that something like increasing buffer size would be
a possible cure.
Or should I change cards? Help! :-))

kind regards
          Ernest
