Marilyn,
Two things:
(1) If someone REALLY, REALLY wants to get in, they're gonna get in.
The best firewall is to disconnect it from the network, and turn off
power..... however - it might not be very practical!
(2) Try things like www.dslreports.com - and check out their security
pages. (www.symantec.com is also good)... I like these as tests -
because they want to sell you their "personal firewall" products.
I have STN, and run their tests, where they try to "soft hack" your
system (i.e. probe for problems, but don't try to exploit them)
With STN up and running - I usually get an answer like "Congratulations!
You have [product name] running and properly configured!" The worst I
get, is "we can ping your [external] IP address" - big deal....
If yer really nutziod parinoid, get W2k Server and ISA, or a Cisco
firwall box. However, chances are that the config is going to be set
wrong - and you'll be worse than ever.
Stick with STN. It works.
