In a subsequent message to this one, I asked the question "why is my
connection so 'chatty'?" (i.e. seeming traffic that I could not account
for.)
There were two almost immediate replies: Code Red.
Apparently, the Code Red worm is a "hunter-seeker" worm - and actively
probes the network it is connected to, to disclose vulnerabilities and
then exploit them.... Ergo lots of net traffic - some of which may be
headed tward your machine.
This may cause time-out timers to reset.
