I needed to have VPN capability, and Share-the-Net just doesn't have it, so I bought a SnapGear Lite box. It's Lineo-based, and is very similar in capabilities to Share-the-Net (which I still think is great), has web-based admin and let's you get down and dirty in configuration scripts if you dare. Setup was straightforward, esp. after experience with Share-the-Net. But most of all, it supports PPTP and IPSec VPN (4 channels). The advanced (and more expensive) models also handle more channels, have a 4-port switch and hardware crypto accelerator, all of which I didn't need. The box is about the size of a small paperback book and completely silent. I have it sitting on top of my ADSL modem. At $279 (inc. shipping and CA tax), it's not cheap, but it does what I want. www.snapgear.com.
