After about three years of tireless, perfect performance the 486 with STN was 
retired yesterday.  Although it never failed on its own,  the new 
configuration here and the space available for it ruled out the size of the 
box; and a Linksys router took its place.

This was possibly the best $70 that I have ever spent.  It supported a 
network that expanded and contracted almost daily, online games, and seamless 
sharing of a cable connection that replaced the dial-up connection.
