STN fully supports DHCP to the host system (cable side) of your cable modem.... Works like the champ it is.
On another note - as I am also a Charter Pipeline subscriber - if you have problems with the DHCP - try connecting a Win95/98 box DIRECTLY to the modem (remember to un-plug the modem and plug it back in so it learns the new MAC address!) and try DHCP there too. Run Winipcfg - and see if you get a "real" IP address.... (I put a short-cut to WinIPcfg on my desktop!!) In my case - Charter's Pipeline (here in Worcester Ma) had the Devil's Own Time vending the DHCP address at initial startup. Neither Windows, nor any Linux version I owned, would get a successful lease on initial boot - it would take a second (or even third) boot to get an IP address... If the lease expires and the IP changes - God help you! After the 14th or 15th time my wife called me at work complaining that the "internet did not work" (and I had to walk her thru a STN reboot....) I got fed up and complained bitterly. I ended up getting them to assign me a Static IP address.... STN worked like a champ with any other DHCP host.
