Pat,

John's link is a gold-mine of information. However, there are a few
points to ponder as well....

1. STN will boot off of a HD -ONLY- if it is on a partition that is the
very first entry in the partition table. In other words, the very first
partition created on that hard drive.

2. It needs to be the first -physical- partition. (-DON'T- relocate it
away from the beginning of the drive)

3. The entire partition containing STN must reside -below- cylinder
1024.

None of this is STN's fault, it is the way the linux loader is written.

One thing you can do, if you're brave, and know about boot managers, is
to set the STN box to multi-boot. (I do this all the time, put STN
within the lowest 8 or so megs, and put something like '98, 'NT, or a
full Linux distribution on the rest, for diagnostic purposes.) If you
-DO- want to multi-boot your system, you can set up Lilo, Grub, or NT to
handle the boot management, or if you're using some other OS, you can go
out and get System Commander (a worthy boot manager)

However, -ABSOLUTELY- keep at least one, possibly more than one, copy of
the STN boot floppy, just in case.
