Can I give my share the net box a different ip other than 192.168.0.1 I tried others
in the same subnet but it won't boot. I need to use 192.168.0.1 for another part of my
network that will not compromise.

Yes, you can go into the administration and change the IP to whatever you
want. I don't have time to run it right now, but I'm sure you can pick the
IP address when you build the disk. You can always boot up the machine by
itself and link into it with another workstation with a palm hub or direct
cable, to do you administration and/or playing before you hook it up to the
real network. I've got a number of STN boxes in use with a whole variety
of IP addresses.

Subject: Wouldn't you know it.....
Well, wouldn't you know it....a couple months after I officially ended
my partnership with STN....my router died (Netgear MR314).
Given that I didn't have the machine I used to run STN on any more, I
resorted to running down to the store and buying the cheapest router I
could find.
Well, it is a Linksys BEFSR11 and I'm on Adelphia....so I've been
plagued with the DHCP problem....well, the following month Adelphia goes
down...and when it returns the DHCP problem seems to have gone away....
Well, on Tueday the DHCP server goes down....and when it returns...the
old DHCP problem has come back. Meanwhile I have picked up an old PC
(my employer was giving them away....) it is slower than what I used to
run STN on. But, I figure it would be a good start.....but not
quite....it was tricky finding cards to work in my old STN machine, now
apparently even harderto find these cards. Plus, the machine didn't
come with keyboard or monitor...and I'm probably gonna leave it that
way.
So, I'm debating what I'm gonna do this weekend...do I try to resurrect
STN or do I run out and buy yet another router. Let's see I had STN
running great for over 3 years....bought a router in December...it died
in May, bought another router....it is junk....now August....hmmm.
Unfortunately, I guess I'll probably opt for buying another
router....one things I'm not sure about is whether MAC address is a
problem. And, it might be too much work to scrounge what I need to get
STN running again.
Lawrence.
