I posted this once, but I thought I'd add more details.

I am behind a firewall here at work, and can't ftp to my linux (redhat 5.2)
machine behind STN. I can ftp to it from other places on the internet that are not
behind firewalls.

Tried NT, Win95 here at work, with the dos command line ftp clients, ftp-lite,
leachftp clients. All allow the connection, but timeout trying to DIR.
PASV mode fails imediately, non Passive mode only times out.

If I telnet out to my primenet account, and ftp from that to my Linux box behind STN,
all works fine.

John Lombardo, if you would like an account on my machine (savoury.net) to test this
out,
let me know, although I don't know how you would duplicate the firewall at my work end.
If you can think of any tests to shed light on it, let me know. Perhaps I could setup
STN admin for external access for you?

Has anyone seen anything like this ftping from one STN protected network to
another STN protected network? That would certainly be easier to duplicate and debug.

My STN is connected to the internet via Cox@Home cable mode.
