Note in discussion below:
Inbound: ftp_server--stn--internet--ftp_client
Outbound: ftp_client--stn--internet--ftp_server
The problem with inbound FTP stems from some clients using "passive"
connections (the PASV ftp command). ShareTheNet is based on Linux, and
Linux has some special software to make passive FTP connections operate
correctly with Outbound FTP, but this Linux feature was not does not work
properly for inbound FTP connections. For some FTP clients, this is not a
problem -- the don't use passive connections. For other FTP clients (such
as browsers), it causes FTP into a network protected by ShareTheNet to fail.
I have identified a possible solution for this problem. I'll have to add
some software to the floppy that will proxy FTP connections into the
ShareTheNet network. Setup will be minimal, just a little more stuff to
squeeze onto the diskette :)
This is on the to do list.
Regards,
John
