I have run into a problem in trying to get a system to operate from hard
drive and would appreciate having someome show me the errors of my ways.
I have taken an old 170 MB 2 1/2" laptop HDD and partitioned it to 4
partitions, let me explain
partition 1 DRDOS + system commander to handle multi-OS booting
100 MB Primary DOS partition
partition 2 type 83 Unix to handle the larger (LILO won't boot the new 13
GB HDD) so to get a
HDD boot I needed a /boot partition somewhere capable 32 MB
partition 3 DOS Primary partition 16 MB dedicated towards STN v 2.04
(followed the instructions)
partition 4 DOS Primary partition 16 MB dedicated towards STN v 2.11
(followed the instructions)
Okay so I know I'm not susposed to have that many Primary partitions but I
set System Commander up
to ignore all partitions except the one I really want to boot from and it
seems to work.
It appears that things start to boot until I expect they are looking for a
RAM disk ?

okay so after typing all this out do I need to rename the volume to /STN
does STN have to be on the first partition, If I boot from hard drive, but
leave the floppy
in the floppy drive all works okay, do I just need to decide I need to
leave a "scratch" floppy there
( I hope not)
My motivation behind doing this is I like to play; don't we all, no really
I always like to have a
DOS partition where I can check out general hardware, and do the quick and
nasty things like
set up NIC's test modems, format hard drives, etc, This is going one
step farther in that I
am connecting up to another gateway but still want to have a handy way to
switch back to my
trusty modem access point should someone up-stream mess things up
Once again I look forward to comments and thought about the subject
Robert
