Hello all, been having some most curious trouble with STN 2.1.1 lately. I run a Win 98/Redhat 5.2 machine, dual bootable, and net access worked without a hitch for both for a long time. Recently I upgraded from 2.1.0. to 2.1.1. Everything works good on the windows end, until I had to go into Linux for a bit. Here is the fun part. If you try to run lynx from the shell or netscape from X, and try to contact a host by its name, say www.sharethenet.com, it freezes the program. If you try to contact the host by its IP addess, say 209.207.171.182 for the STN homepage again, it doesn't freeze, just sits there. So I start up Java ICQ, and it does the same thing *sometimes*. This is where it is really weird, because sometimes it works normally, and sometimes it just sits there. Back to the shell, to do some more testing. I can ping the STN box, and anybody on my network. If I ping an outside source, with a named IP, it doesn't report anything, have to break out of it. If I use an IP address, it will sometimes recieve the first reply back, but no others, an! ! d other times it will recieve no replys at all. Maybe some info on my hardware will help too. The STN box is a 486SX/25, 8 meg ram, 50 meg harddrive, setup according to the instructions in the FAQ for a harddrive install. It has a 3com 3c509B Etherlink three card, same as my main machine, which is a P200, 32 meg ram, and lots of hard drive space too. I have checked all my configs at my end (Nothing has changed, other than STN, but better safe than sorry), and everything is good. So I am really puzzled here, is it something I have to change for the new version? Has anyone else had a similar problem? Everything is working beautifully for windows, no problems at all.
