Short of running out of slots, there should be no real reason you COULDN'T
put a third NIC into a 386.
Actually, I'd think there'd be more limiting on the size of the floppy
disk. A fully-populated STN setup with two NICs nearly maxes out a 1.44MB
floppy now. I'm not sure if there'd be enough room to add a third driver
to that disk. If, on the other hand all NICs used the same driver (say a
tulip driver), disk space would not be nearly as impacted...
John would know better than I... But the addition of a DMZ (bastion
network capability?) could bring STN to newer goals! I doubt you'd get the
functionality of a full-up firewall software package like FirewallOne onto
a floppy, but you could get the general functionality on there...

This is sometimes called a "bastion network", too. It sounds like
a good idea, but I don't think I can get another NIC into my old
386 that runs STN! Maybe I'd have to upgrade.
