Sharity-Light does not read any lmhosts files, it reads the /etc/hosts file.
However, you probably should not add a remote computer name for 127.0.0.1 to
it.
For Sharity-Light I'd recommend that you use [THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH
SHARITY!]
shlight //127.0.0.1/homes /home/steven/mdrive -s srvname -U... -W...
-p...
You specify the IP address and set the server namem with the '-s' option.

This is NOT due to encryption. You get a local socket error during the
connection phase. That's long before passwords are sent.

In Sharity, you can configure the port number and IP address in the "CIFS
Servers" section of the GUI on a per server basis. Most of the configuration
options are ONLY documented in the GUI's help.
