The source code release of Sharity 1.05 is now available at
ftp://ftp.obdev.at/pub/Products/Sharity/Sharity.1.05.tar.gz
This is primarily a bugfix release. Major changes since 1.04 are:
- Fixed many bugs in Unicode mapping module, cleaned up Unicode tables for
Japanese character sets (thanks to Tsutomu Sakai for the fixes). Sharity
works with ShiftJIS and EUC versions of IRIX now.
- Fixed (hopefully) "stale nfs file handle" error that occurred during fast
(automated) mount/unmount sequences.
- Changed cifsumount behaviour: All users are logged out by default, if
this allows disconnecting the server.
- Fixed directory listing bug that affected Win95 servers when the
directory contained many long filenames.
- New options to cifslicense display license utilization.
Version 1.05 has been tested on Linux and OPENSTEP/Mach. The other ports
will be tested when the binaries are made.
We need your help!
------------------
We don't have all platforms available here. We can compile and test Sharity
on Linux (debian hamm), OPENSTEP/Mach and Apple Rhapsody DR2. We therefore
need the help of volunteers to compile it for the other platforms. It turned
out that our previous manner of asking the "public" or a selected group for
this contribution does not work very well. Maybe you remember that I wanted
to send out an announcement when all binaries for 1.04 were available. The
list is still not complete.
Therefore we want to change the mode. We will create a database of
volunteers who are willing to run some tests or compile a binary when asked
to do so. In this way we avoid duplicate work (because we select someone to
do the compiling) and ensure that as many binaries as possible are available.
So, if you
- are willing to donate some of your time
- have some programming experience (not very much required)
please fill out the form appended to this mail and return it to me. If you
are selected, you will be asked to compile the binaries and run some
rudimentary tests. We can't give you a reward for doing this, unfortunately.
But on the other hand, many of you have received their license for free...
Here is the form:
1. Client operating systems (OS names and versions and the number of machines
with the respective OS):
2. Compilers available (and which on which client platform):
3. Server operating systems (names and versions and number of machines):
4. Network bandwidth
5. Routers or other "anomalies" in network topology?
6. Domain concept (domain controlled by NT or whatever?)
5. Your programming skills (may be relevant for some more complex testing):
If you don't want to fill in a field for privacy reasons, please leave it
blank. We'll use the information about your network if we need to test things
on specific setups. E.g. if we need to test something on a large network,
we'd select someone with a large network and ask him or her to run the test.
As a side effect we'll learn more about the usage patterns for Sharity.
The data you supply will *not* be available to anybody outside Objective
Development.
