Code 53 is normal for a computer that has been modified (performance
calibration). Code 53 by itself will not affect drivability. The
part number you list is correct for a VNT car. If it is a stock
computer that has not been modified, code 53 could be indicative of a
problem internally with the computer module itself.

If you have the original computer, try it.

Also the problem could be with the Hall Effect Pickup in the
distributor even though there isn't a code for it being shown. If you
buy a new HEP, be sure to get it at the dealer, as auto parts store
HEP's have proven unreliable and sometimes fail right out of the box.
