Its just a bunch of loose screws in the joint.  Follow the directions here:

(yes we have a Chevy steering column)

I did it on my 87 SL and no more slop.  I only got 3 of the 4 screws just 
like in the above article.  Be careful putting it back together.  Those 
little springs are a bugger.
