Hi,
If this is the same part that broke on my 89 Shelby Daytona about a 12-14 years
ago, yes, I did a fix that was indistructible.
My cable broke or was stripped at the top part where it gets "pinched" in the
shifter" Sorry if I don't know what I'm talking about but this was years ago
and I don't remember for sure what these shifters look like. The top of the
cable has teeth on the flat part that lock in the shifter. We, for a good 6
months to a year, used a pair of needle nose pliers to pull up the cable for
reverse. After the teeth stripped. Needless to say, we tried not to have to
use reverse. The nylon kept breaking off little pieces over time.
What I did was to grind off the flat part of the cable up to the cylinder
shaped part. Then I drilled a really small hole down the middle of the cable.
(maybe 1/32") I slipped the cable in and ran a sheet metal screw down through
the top of the shifter in to the cable. The screw was snug and there wasn't a
chance of it "EVER" coming out. The pinching teeth in the shifter itself would
have to break for this to fail. It never did fail.
I hope this helps. I was a super fast fix, once I figured out what needed to
be done.
