I am willing to bet that the CHECK GAGES light only comes on at idle--more
specifically, hot idle. Just touch the gas and it'll go out. If so, the oil
pressure sending unit is on the fritz. They're leaking and the weather tight
electrical connector seal actually holds in the leakage and resulting pressure
which causes near equal pressure on both sides of the sending unit so it thinks
oil pressure is lost. The oil pressure gage is supposed to follow suit and go
to zero, but that's like leaving the bar at 9. It just doesn't happen.
