Nick,
You have about three or four options. It sounds like they used a modified GLHT
intermediate or jack shaft on your car. Why they would weld it is beyond me? As
you know they should come apart where they are splined together. Many times
they are rusted so bad that they don't want to come apart. There are easy ways
to get them apart, but that is another story.

You need to use the machined part of the intermediate shaft from a 520, 523,
555, or 568 that goes in the extension housing. The 543 will work too. You can
separate it at the u-joint. If you have another good GLHT intermediate shaft
(doubtful), put the larger splined inboard side on the shorter GLHT shaft. You
then just replace the hybrid shaft and use another GLHT or L-body CV axle.

You also can use your R/T shaft assembly. This will be slightly longer and have
a different style bracket that attaches to the block. Bolt that up to your
vehicle. You then simply need a 88-90 drivers side TBI Omni automatic CV axle
on the passenger side. It will bolt right in and you then have true equal
length shafts. When done you will have two left 88-90 auto CV axles in your
car. One on each side.

The third option is using a one piece shaft (eliminating the intermediate shaft
altogether). This will also come from a 88-90 Omni automatic donor, but this
time from the passenger side. Obviously you can buy a rebuilt from a parts
store too. Many people have gone this route with no additional torque steer.
Without the half shaft, it's one less weak link to break.

A forth option is to get custom made Chrome moly CV axles made up, but this is
expensive. If you want to go this route, PM me and I can get you contact info.

Hope this info helps.

Hi,

I have an 86 GLH with a 568 Trans. I just blew an axle today.

When I took it apart, the axle was welded to the intermediate shaft.

I tried to use an intermediate shaft out of my spirit r/t, but it is different,
longer.

Can anyone tell me what intermediate shaft and axle to use? Thanks!

And does anyone have one for sale??

I also need a front motor mount bracket!

Please send price with shipping, I'm in Manheim, PA 17545

Thanks,

Nick
