You can get an idea about the condition of your wiring by measuring the
voltage across the battery and comparing to the voltage across the
alternator. For the latter, it's important to put the negative probe of
your volt meter on the alternator case. If there is a big difference in
voltage (more than 1/2 volt or so), then you know the problem is likely
wiring-related.

Dodge Omni GLH Turbo. The Factory alternator recently died so I
replaced it with an exchange unit from Auto Zone because the local
Dodge dealer informed me their model was no longer available. They did
have a 'repair kit' for it but it needed bearings and I didn't want to
deal with that, worn brushes and possibly blown diodes. Installing the
Auto Zone unit more less fixed the problem except that now, it doesn't
hold a load very well at idle. I have to rev the engine up to get it
to output the required 13.8-14.2 VDC. That isn't true of other
vehicles I have dealt with that seem to be able to hold the proper
charging voltage at an idle. I thought it might be the regulator...the
one that mounts on the left fender well and the intake air for the
engine flows through it. That did not fix the problem. I have checked
for corroded connections at the battery and at the ground point on the
engine.

the one built by MOPAR or you would have these problems. Does anyone
know where a good aftermarket Alternator can be purchased that will fix
this problem?
