If there is any play in the bushings on the cables, I highly recommend
Booger Bushings.

Thanks for responding. I have changed my 84 Daytona Z to have 87
electronics, 2.5, and other performance parts. I am using the 523 shifter
that came with the transmission. Cables from a 568. No, I am not trying to
use the original 525 cables. I gave up on the 525 10 years ago after
destroying 2 of them.

I worked on it tonight and I think I figured it out(got lucky). I will find
out tomorrow after charging the battery back up.

I removed the center console so only the shifter/cables were left.
Loosened/removed the 4 nuts holding the shifter down, lifted it up and tried
shifting at different positions and elevations. During this, the cables
pulled my way what felt like 1", as if they were bound somewhere. I bolted
it back down and just looking at the position of the cable during shifting
and how it feels, it seems to be in place now. Like I said, I'll find out
tomorrow. I hope it's that easy.

Thank you.

Steve

Steve,
I like the first gen G-bodies, but?we need more info Steve. What shifter are
you using? The 523 uses a 3 plane shifter, while the others use a?2 plane
shifter. You need to use a 523/568/ or Neon shifter. Cables should be from a
523/568 Daytona since this is what kind of car/ tranny?you have. Please tell
me your not trying to use your?original?Daytona cable shifter? That just not
gonna work.

I have a 523 transmission on an 84 Daytona Turbo Z w/2.5.?
New shifter bushings have been installed.? I have pinned the
transmission in place and set the shifter in place.? After
that I unpinned the transmission and can only get 1-4th and
Reverse.? I try moving the linkage manually, but with no luck
getting all 6 gears.? If I move the shifter further one way I
lose reverse and 5th.? If I move it the opposite way, I lose
1st and sometimes 2nd.? I cannot find the happy medium.?
Am I doing something wrong?? Any pointers?

Thank you. Steve
