Users will likely already have problems if the contents of TMPDIR is
randomly deleted. GNOME, as an example, will misbehave.

I disagree. The number of temporary files from desktop GUI
applications is only increasing.

It's nice to say those applications should be fixed, but since we are
not the ones in control of all the applications that are used...
