But /why/ would I ever be searching for files there?  I have /never/
had a reason to do a "ls -l $TMPDIR" in all my 20 years of using Unix,
USG, Linux and Solaris.  I could see this proposal as being interesting
if this were an operation that was frequently performed, but looking
under the covers as the various programs do their thing isn't something
that users usually do...

I can't do anything with those files, there is no guarantee that they
won't be deleted in the near future, their content us unknown and
unknowable, etc.
