Erm, that's not true.
Many of our users use TMPDIR for some quick testing or work which
doesn't need to be saved permanently (perfect example are training
sessions for newbies or just compile another quick testcase for a bug).
And AFAIK we're not the only site where people behave like that since
I've seen similar settings for TMPDIR at other universities, too. That's
why I came up with the proposal: This setting is very popular and may be
usefull as general default for login sessions.
