Different source files are used depending on which is invoked. Take a look at the .platform files to figure out the differences (in $TOSROOT/tos/platforms/shimmer2 and $TOSROOT/tos/platforms/shimmer2r).
If you are using a shimmer2r you should not build as "shimmer2" as you will end up with unpredictable results when the app is running (due to hardware differences between the various shimmer revisions).
