If you do this, I'd suggest just adding the new fields to the view-params JSON blob -- this way you won't have to maintain a separate patch, and it'll keep working the way that you expect. From personal experience, maintaining patches against open source code (especially code that is evolving this fast) is a real pain. What do you think about the gadgets.js patch? I haven't really looked at it. Are you using this in production?
