Thanks for the explanations - that makes a lot of sense, although it does seem undocumented.
Regarding the issue I saw with file:// transfers, I've been looking through the PHP code and can't see any kind of checks on protocols, so I have created SHINDIG-662 with an attached patch - sorry if there's some obviously un-php like thing, I've never written PHP before. Tim
